For example, after the children of Israel had sojourned in the wilderness for forty years, they reached the edge of the Jordan River. There were other important memorials that helped the Israelites remember their history and how God had delivered His people at critical times. They are holy because they belong to the Lord. If God's law is going to be on their lips, then they must remember that they belong to the Lord because He has saved them from the tyranny of slavery. If the people forget that they belong to the Lord and how Jehovah has delivered them, then they will show no regard for God's law. You will notice that there is a relationship in the Bible between remembering how God has delivered His people and the obedience of God's people. In the Bible, memorials were established for the purpose of remembering. When Christians celebrate the Lord's Supper they are keeping the Passover that God commanded His people to honor in perpetuity. And in so doing, we will consider how the Passover is a memorial, a feast, and a lasting ordinance, which continues through the Lord's Supper.
